1. Objective: To enhance graduate students’ academic capabilities and establish global networks through collaborative research at prestigious overseas universities or research institutions, ultimately fostering innovative research outcomes.

2. Eligibility

 -  Enrolled graduate students who have completed at least one semester and have received recommendations from their department head and academic advisor.

 - Students who have previously been awarded the GIST-IREF scholarship are eligible to reapply only after submitting a joint research paper (or equivalent accomplishments) from their prior fellowship.

3.  Host Institutions: Applicants should select an overseas institution aligned with their research field and initiate contact through their academic advisor.

4. Program Duration

 - No restriction on the duration of the stay (scholarship support is capped at a maximum of nine months). 

 - The program duration must be verifiable through official documents such as an invitation letter and cannot include personal schedules.

 - Once submitted, the application cannot be amended; applicants must finalize the institution and duration before submission.

6. Application Submission

 - Submission Period: Rolling applications (until the 2025 budget is exhausted)

 - Required Documents: Application form, research proposal, recommendation letters, invitation letter from the host institution, and applicant’s CV.

7. Selection Timeline: Fellowship selection will occur bi-monthly starting January 2025 (six rounds in total).

8. Overlapping Benefits

 - Receiving extra support such as other research grants, scholarships, or stipends is allowed.

 - However, overlapping support with similar overseas host programs or scholarships of a similar nature to the GIST-IREF program is restricted.

 - Applicants must verify eligibility for overlapping benefits when submitting their application with the GIST-IREF administrator. 

9. Requirements: Submit a joint research paper (or equivalent outcomes) with the host institution within two years of completing the program.
