Professor Byeong Ha Lee inaugurated as the

6th Director of GIST Advanced Photonics Research Institute

□ GIST Professor Byeong Ha Lee of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science has been appointed as the 6th Director of the Advanced Photonics Research Institute (APRI), which is GIST"s optical research institute. The Advanced Photonics Research Institute held the inaugural ceremony on January 5, 2917, which was attended by every researcher of the institute.

□ In his inaugural address, Director Byeong Ha Lee said, "The research at APRI should be centered on space, defense, security, and the oceans. I will try to grow APRI into a world-class research institute with professionalism."

□ Furthermore, he said, "We will strengthen collaboration with the Korea Photonics Institute, the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, and the Electronic Components Research Institute. We will try to spread our research results created at GIST to support Gwangju"s regional economy."

□ Director Byeong Ha Lee is a graduate of Seoul National University and received hisPh.D. from the University of Colorado. In 1999, he was appointed professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at GIST, and he has served as dean of public affairs.
