Water experts establish Gwangju Jeonnam Water Forum Corporation
Water issues and alternatives discussed at the
Kim Dae-Jung Convention Center on May 10, 2016
Water experts from the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST • President Seung Hyeon Moon) and the local area, including government and public officials, participated in the inaugural meeting of the Gwangju Jeonnam Water Forum Corporation on May 10, 2016, at the Kim Dae-Jung Convention Center. The meeting was attended by Gwangju Mayor Janghyeon Yun, GIST President Seung Hyeon Moon, Chosun University President Jaehong Seo, and more than 70 other people.
The Gwangju Jeonnam Water Forum Corporation plans to host symposiums and discussions to improve the management of regional water resources, such as rivers, agricultural irrigation, dams, and reservoirs. Water-related educational and promotional campaigns will be aimed at students and residents to help preserve water quality. Such activities will improve the international standing of Gwangju and the Jeolla region as being environmentally responsible.
GIST International Environmental Institute Director Heechul Choi (School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Engineering) said, "With Gwangju and the Jeolla region suffering droughts and floods from the impact of global warming, the Gwangju Jeonnam Water Forum Corporation will improve the ecological management of local water resources."
