□ GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology) international students hosted a night of global culture at the GIST gymnasium at 5:00 pm on October 16, 2015. Held every fall semester, the GIST Culture Night is a chance for the international students to showcase their national traditions through food, music, and dance.

The GIST Culture Night is a festival of global proportions that represents the best of GIST.

Students from 11 countries participated in this year"s event by creating cultural booth-exhibitions to represent their countries, and they came from such faraway places as Egypt, Lithuania, Vietnam, and Nigeria. Seven countries also participated in the talent competition, and performances included singing (Moldova, Egypt, and India), dancing (United States, Vietnam, India, and Indonesia) and a Ph.D.-themed skit performed by the students from Pakistan.

In particular, Moldova featured a homemade style dipping jam with crepes, Bangladesh recreated traditional national dishes, and the Philippines made a national snack for children called chippy and piattos. The foods presented by the international students and their families were made with great effort, and that effort was greatly appreciated by all of the visitors who had a chance to taste the world at the GIST Culture Night.

Korea also had a special exhibition to give international students and visitors alike a taste of Korea"s traditional tri-colored sticky rice treats, which attracted the attention of international students and proved to be quite popular.

The Dean of International and Public Affairs, Professor Byoung Hun Lee, noted that "GIST currently has 110 international students from 22 countries who are receiving scholarship benefits, which allows them to pursue their dreams of studying science and technology at GIST. Having the GIST Culture Night is an important opportunity for these students and local residents to share their national cultures and aspirations while fostering a strong sense of pride to be a member of the GIST community."
