High school students realize dream of being scientists thanks to GIST

1

During this summer vacation, GIST has held the ‘2015 Science Camp’ from Monday, July 27, to Friday, July 31, to give high school students an opportunity to develop scientific creativity and to experience college life.

GIST Science Camp started in 2009, and this season is the 7th year the camp has been held. The camp has become an integral program at GIST College with 40 to 50 students participating from various high schools throughout Korea.

This year, 50 high school students spent five days living in the dormitories at GIST College with current college students, and this gave them a chance to experience a little bit of the realities of college life while also experiencing classes and labs taught by GIST professors.

On the last day of the camp, teams of two students gave presentations on their "Mission Projects" in front of GIST professors and their fellow students.

After the presentations, GIST selected several outstanding teams and honored them with awards. The President’s Award went to Ki-hwan Kim (Changwon boys HS) and Won-chul Kim (Gwangju Kumho HS). The Dean’s Award went to Min-young Oh (Daejeon Yongsan HS) and Jae-min Jang (Naju Kumsung HS). The Excellence Award went to Ji-myoung Kim (Gwangju Seoksan HS), Da-hee Gwak (Chungju Sannam HS), Taek-rim Lee (Chunan Bukil HS), Bo-young Kim (Muan Namak HS), Do-youp Jung (Gwanju HS), Ji-hyun Kim (Haenam HS), and Tae-young Kim (Daejeon Dongsan HS).

GIST President Seung Hyeon Moon said, “GIST Science Camp provides an excellent opportunity for high school students to grow as creative scientists and to experience the college life while giving them a chance to see all the possibilities and benefits of continuing their education at GIST. GIST will always continue to offer great programs for high school students and to help them become Korea"s future pioneering scientific leaders.”
