Participants from last year’s 10th Annual Kyung-am Bio Youth Camp held at Oryong Hall.

GIST is now accepting applications for the Kyung-am Bio Youth Camp, which is a life sciences experience program that is aimed at high school students. This event will be held in four cities, including Gwangju and Seoul in July.

The education foundation of Kyung-am will host the event and the Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology will organize the program. Since 2005, Kyung-am Bio Youth Camp has been held every year for high school students to increase their interest in life sciences.

The camps will be held simultaneously in Seoul, Busan, and Daejeon on July 28th and 29th. As for Gwangju region, students from Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do will join us at Oryong Hall on the 28th from 9:00 am to 5:40 pm.

The Camp at GIST will have speakers from last year’s Kyung-am Bio Youth Camp, including awards recipient Jang-soo Chun, a School of Life Sciences professor at GIST who will give a presentation on the topic of "How Osteoarthritis Occurs." Another GIST professor from the School of Life Sciences, Daeho Park, will give a presentation on "Travelling to the Grave of Cells."  Professor Jae-sang Kim of Ewha Womans University will give a presentation on "The Supermodel of Neurobiology," professor Tae-joo Park of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology will give a presentation about "Creating Shapes: The Formation of Embryogenesis," and professor Ja-hyun Baek of Koryo University will give a presentation on "Neurotransmitters and Our Behavior."

Applications are due by July 9, 2015, and one thousand students from all regions will be selected. Only 200 students from that total will attend the GIST Youth Camp. Students can also apply to meet with mentors and to participate in the experiments.
