[Press Release] Congresswoman Eun-Hee Kwon’s visits GIST for the first time to support collaboration on defense technology R&D

Congresswoman Eun-Hee Kwon of the New Politcal Alliance for Democracy visited GIST on May 4th, 2015, and toured various research facilities. She also spoke with GIST President Dr. Seunghyun Moon about the research and development of technology pertinent to national defense.

Congresswoman Eun-Hee Kwon, who is also a member of the National Assembly"s Defense Committee, held discussions about the current status of the nation"s defense technologies and the defense industry as well as ways to improve them. She has utmost interest in collaboration with the school and will support R&D. While at GIST, she also visited various research facilities, such as the ultra-short photon beam lab at the Advanced Photonics Research Institute (APRI).

*GIST President Dr. Seunghyun Moon stated in his inaugural address in March that he would actively pursue research focusing on national defense technologies as part of his "Scientific and Technological Research for the People."

Since then, GIST research teams have been reviewing the technical feasibility of future defense technologies, and GIST President Dr. Seunghyun Moon has met with members of the Defense Research Institute and discussed possible joint research projects.

GIST President Dr. Seunghyun Moon said, "GIST is a government funded science and technology university with world-class research and researchers and is equipped with the necessary security systems and infrastructure. We have the skills and will contribute to the strengthening the national defense system and development.

Congresswoman Eun-Hee Kwon said, “We will actively support and contribute to the development of our national defense system through organizations such as GIST and National Defense Scientific Research Institute.”
