Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST· President, Kim Young-Joon), School of Life Sciences, Prof. Chang-Duk Jun (47) was selected for ‘2012 the selection of excellence Governmental R&D Outcome’ which announced by National Science and Technology Commission (Chairman, Do-Yeon, Kim)

Prof. Jun was highly appreciated for discovering new protein regulating functions of ‘T-Lymphocytes’ which responsible for Human body’s Immune System. At the surface of T-Lymphocytes’, exists TCR recognizing substances invaded from outside. Prof. Jun’s research team confirmed that this TCR colligate with ‘IGSF4 protein’ inside the cell membrane of ‘T-Lymphocytes’ and amplifies a signal. It is first time to prove that new protein ‘IGSF4’ controls ‘T-Lymphocytes’. This research can be applied for developing new medicine that can cure autoimmune diseases, side effect of organ transplant, immune deficiency syndrome and so on, by a new medicine adjusting the function of IGSF4.

The research outcome of Prof. Jun, was selected to ‘2012 the selection of excellence fundamental research’ which sponsored by Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
