   □ A group of researchers in Korea developed a new therapy that controls the growth of breast cancer metastasized to brain. Therefore, it opens a possibility of the fact that the therapy stops cancer cells and blood vessels from creating so that the metastatic brain tumor can effectively be treated.

   ○ This achievement came as a result of a joint research conducted by a group of professors led by Chung Eui-Heon from Department of Medical System of Engineering and School of Mechatronics in Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST· President, Kim Young-Joon), and Professor Rakesh Jane at the General Hospital of Massachusetts in Harvard Medical ScAdvanced Researchers Support Project sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and National Research Foundation of Korea.

The result of the research was posted in October, 2012 on the on-line section of the world-renowned academic journal of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). The name of the paper is “Combined targeting of HER2 and VEGFR2 for effective treatment of HER2-amplified breast cancer brain metastases”.
