Global Desalination Research Center hosts
9th International Desalination Workshop
The Global Desalination Research Center (GDRC), in cooperation with the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), GMVP Research Center, and FOHC Research Center, hosted the 9th International Desalination Workshop in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from November 13 to 15, 2016.
A total of 54 oral presentations and 16 poster presentations were held on the topic of seawater desalination technology. A total of 150 experts from 15 countries attended the workshop. The best oral presentation and poster was given the KAIA Award.
Participants in the workshop focused on membrane evaporation techniques that combine membrane and evaporation principles, along with technologies to reduce carbon dioxide by minimizing the energy required for membrane-based seawater desalination (primarily reverse osmosis membranes and osmosis membranes).

GIST Global Desalination Research Director In S. Kim was the was the keynote speaker for this event and was invited to speak with Kim Byeong-soo, chairman of KAIA, Enrico Drioli, Professor John Leinhard of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, and Professor Rong Wang, Director of the Singapore Membrane Technology Center (SMTC) in Singapore Nanyang Technological University attended the workshop.
Director Kim announced, "The 10th International Desalination Workshop (IDW 2017) is scheduled to be held next year at BEXCO in Busan from November 22 to 24."
