Details of the High School – University Level Program (UP) Offered at GIST
- This is the first time that GIST College has offered ‘UP’ courses
- Three courses will be offered from July 13 to August 16
- Room and board will be provided on campus to give high school students a chance to experience university life and to earn academic credits that can be used towards future university courses
□ GIST College is the undergraduate program at the Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology (GIST). GIST College has been working with the Korean Council for University Education (KCUE) to allow high school students to earn college credits during summer vacation through the University-level Program (UP).
□ GIST College is offering 3 courses that will enroll 20 high school students per course: Chemistry Theory Ⅰ (7.13∼7.31), Physics Theory Ⅰ (8.1∼8.15), and Calculus (8.3∼8.16).
□ Participants will have access to the most modern amenities and state-of-the-art educational infrastructures offered by GIST"s student-friendly campus (such as Western-style dormitories, an avant-garde library, and sports facilities that offer a complete range of fitness and exercise options, including an Olympic-style swimming pool) for all of the participants to enjoy without any extra fees or charges. This will allow high school students who participate in the UP program to experience the complete range of university life at GIST before they even graduate from high school.
□ Tuition is 200,000 won per course. However, recipients of welfare or other form of social care may be exempted.
□ Dean Do-Kyeong Ko of GIST College noted, “GIST College is the first among Korea"s science and technology schools to offer a ‘University-level Program.’ We hope that participants will gain a true taste of university life and academics at GIST while they are still in high school and that this will provide them with a great opportunity to discover their skills and dreams.”
