Prof. Jang-Soo Chun of GIST School of Life Sciences was included in the list of “63 New Power People of Gwangju-Jeonnam” announced by Kwangju Ilbo, the oldest local daily newspaper serving the city and the surrounding province, in celebration of its 63rd anniversary of foundation.

“Professor Chun made important contributions to understanding osteoarthritis and provided new clues to preventing and curing the disease,” said Kwangju Ilbo.

In February 2014, Professor Chun’s team published a paper in Cell that revealed a new mechanism of osteoarthritis, a disease characterized by cartilage degeneration. He was named Scientist of the Month in August 2014 by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the National Research Foundation of Korea, and he also won Kyung-Ahm Academic Prize in November 2014.
