– “La Bohème with the MARRY” Popera & String Ensemble Concert at 7:30 p.m. on March 27th

– Three more cultural events will be held in summer, autumn, and winter at the GIST.

Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President ž Young Joon Kim) held a seasonal cultural event for the local community and GIST members on March 27th (Thursday).

○ “La Bohème with the MARRY” is the first seasonal event at the GIST held at Dasan Hall of Oryong Hall at 7:300 p.p. on March 27th in 2014.

○ La Bohème is a male popera duo and the MARRY is a string ensemble quartet. They performed tender classical music and familiar film scores and old pop songs. They were dressed in specially designed costumes to make the audience feel like they are watching a salon concert of the 1800s.

○ At the concert, “Moon River” in Breakfast at Tiffany"s, “My Heart Will Go On” in Titanic, “I Hope It Would Be That Way Now” originally sung by Cho Yong-pil, and “This Is The Moment” in Jekyll & Hyde (musical).

□ The GIST has held four seasonal cultural events every year; every performance held in a season will be different with the one in another season.

○ This year’s cultural events are under the title “Gam() with Culture” and will deliver various types of performances. “La Bohème with the MARRY” is for spring, a dynamic performance with DJing and B-boys is for summer (in June), a gala performance of a Korean musical with “The First” is for autumn (in September), and a cinema concert with film scores is for winter (in December).

○ This year’s title “Gam() with Culture” has a variety of meanings: Gam in Korean refers to ‘take’ as well as ‘sense’ and ‘understand.’ Therefore “Gam with Culture” means “take the road of culture”, “sense the culture”, and “understand the culture.”

□ Tickets to GIST events can be purchased at the office of Section of Public Relations and Funding or at Onoffmix (http://onoffmix.com/event/25433) before events start and at the 2nd floor of Oryong Hall on the date when events are held.
