GIST – Namgu District Office – Chosun University report on the result of the dementia diagnosis program 15.9% diagnosed as dementia patient and 38.5% as having risks of dementia among 1,130 participants in screening tests reporting session and special lecture on dementia at the Namgu District Office on June 28 Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology(GIST, President Young Joon Kim) conducted a screening test for dementia in joint with the Namgu District Office of Gwangju Metropolitan city(District office head Choi, Young Ho), and Chosun University (President Seo, Jae hong). Approximately 1,000 residents aged 65 or above in Namgu district, Gwangju applied for the test and over half of them were found to show symptoms or have risks of dementia. Bio Imaging Research Center of GIST (headed by Prof. Song, Woo Keun at the School of Life Science), the Namgu District Office and Research Center for Alzheimer"s Disease of Chosun University have pushed ahead with the early dementia diagnosis program from 2011 to early this year for the purpose of enhancing local residents’ welfare and drawing up a standard dementia brain map of Koreans. 1,130 residents from Namgu district applied for the screening test and received in-depth medical examination including neuropsychological test, MRI scanning and consultation. Among the applicants, 180 people (15.9%) were diagnosed to have dementia and 453 people (38.5%) to have risks of dementia (mild cognitive impairment). In other words, 54.4% of all applicants have already developed or are vulnerable to dementia. 
Bio Imaging Research Center and the Namgu District Office held a session to report on the result of the early dementia diagnosis program at a conference room in the Namgu District Office on June 28th, which was attended by GIST President Young Joon Kim, district office head Choi Young Ho, lawmaker Chang Byoung Wan, etc.
