GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, President Jung-Ho SUNO) held 2010 entrance ceremony for undergraduate and graduate students with 400 distinguished guests at its auditorium at 11:00 a.m. on March 2.

In addition, there was a ground-breaking ceremony for a research center on new renewable energy at construction site at 11:40 a.m. on the same day.

The entrance ceremony marks a fresh start for GIST as one of the best universities as it first enrolls its undergraduate students that GIST has longed for in order to produce high talents in science and technology. Jung Hyun Kim, a vice minister of ministry of education science and technology, Kwangtae Park, mayor of Gwangju, Youngjin Kim lawmaker and Woontae Kang lawmaker attended the ceremony.

GIST had all 345 new students comprised of 100 undergraduates, 167 in Master, 71 in PhD and 7 in Master and PhD course among whom there are 21 foreign students from nine countries.

A building for undergraduates with a size of 10,891 Pyong is composed of dormitories, power plants, student hall, research hall, and Labs. GIST establishes best-class eco-friendly green campus for the first time as a university with highly fuel-efficient low-carbon buildings and classrooms for debate, providing sophisticated educational environment for undergraduates.

Furthermore, a new research center for renewable energy is poised to focus on green energy business with solar energy study using organic photovoltaic cells. GIST plans to develop the center as the world-class research institute with its full capacity so that GIST takes the lead in low-carbon green growth.

With a new undergraduate course, as of February 26, the title of the head of GIST changes from the director to the president as the Act on GIST was revised on January 25. As a result, GIST advances into a university.
