GIST Korea Institute of Culture and Technology uses CT technology to bring Buddha to life

□ The Korea Institute of Culture and Technology (Director Soon-Boo Park) at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) has restored two national treasures, which cannot be moved, for the public to enjoy at "The Heart of Buddha" exhibition.

∘ The National Gwangju Museum is hosting the "Heart of Buddha (卽 心是 佛)" exhibition from August 15 (Sun) to October 22 (Sun) and will be featuring precious and sacred cultural artifacts from the Silla era Homan region.

□ GIST Korea Institute of Cultural Technology reproduced National Treasure No. 42 "Songgwangsa Wooden Trilogy" and National Treasure No. 111 "Borimsa Iron Gilt Bronze Buddha Statue" at the National Gwangju Museum.
∘ First, the National Treasure No. 42 is a very small wooden block with a height of 13.9 cm and a width of 17 cm. It was digitized by 3D mesh data restoration technology to recreate delicate and detailed texture of the Buddha image. In addition, a 4-sided hologram system was used to create a lively atmosphere for the artifacts.
∘ Another exhibit, National Treasure No. 117 "Borimsa Temple's Virozanaburitang," which is 280 cm in height, is a perfect Buddhist statue modeled using 3D lidar scan and 3D mesh data restoration technology. Using the 3D projection mapping technology for the Buddha statue model, the texture and detail expression of bronze was maximized, providing a true likeness of the original statute with the same size.

□ The digital contents created by the GIST Korea Institute of Culture and Technology, which synchronized 3D image / sound / touch for the first time, is expected to maximize the enjoyment of people viewing the exhibits.
