The Research Institute for Solar and Sustainable Energies Annual Forum held at GIST

□ The Research Institute for Solar and Sustainable Energies (RISE, Director Jae-Hyung Jang) at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) held the "Research Institute for Solar and Sustainable Energies Annual Forum" on June 15, 2017, at Oryong Hall.

□ The forum was divided into invited speakers, an opening ceremony, presentations on research achievements, and poster presentations.

∘ The invited speakers analyzed and discussed the patterns of change for future energy technologies. Professor Chun Taek Rim gave a lecture on "Future Change and Energy." In addition, a lecture entitled "The Future of the Hydrogen Economy, Bright or Bleak?" by Chaired Professor Sung-Ahn Hong was held to discuss the present state of technology and policy direction of hydrogen energy. Finally, a lecture entitled "Fourth Industrial Revolution and Energy Business Innovation" was presented by Professor Jin Ho Kim who discussed how the energy industry should be approached with respect to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

∘ Following the invited speakers, the opening ceremony for the 2017 GIST Research Institute for Solar and Sustainable Energies Annual Forum was held, which was followed by opening remarks from RISE Director Jae-Hyung Jang along with encouragements from GIST President Seung Hyeon Moon. Finally, Sang-Bae Lee who is the Director of Strategic Industry from the Gwangju Metropolitan City congratulated the Research Institute for Solar and Sustainable Energies.

□ The Research Institute for Solar and Sustainable Energies, which hosted the event, was established at GIST in 2009 as a research institute specializing in energy technology and now has four research areas consisting of solar cells, chemical batteries, plastic electronics, and future power grid.

□ RISE Director Jae-Hyung Jang said, "This forum is a place to share the latest research achievements of the Research Institute for Solar and Sustainable Energies with experts from industry, academia, and government. We look forward to discussing new energy technologies and the implications for society. We will continue to develop the achievements presented today and will make efforts to lead the next generation energy research for the 4th Industrial Revolution that the new government is promoting."
