Dr. Kyu-Jung Chae Appointed Assistant Professor at KMOU

Dr. Kyu-Jung Chae, a graduate of GIST, has been appointed assistant professor of the Department of Environmental Engineering at Korea Maritime and Ocean University (KMOU).

After graduating from KMOU with a bachelor’s degree in 1998, Dr. Chae received his M.S. and Ph. D. degrees from GIST School of Environmental Science and Engineering in 2000 and 2010, respectively. At GIST, he was a research assistant for Environmental Membrane-Biotechnology Laboratory directed by Professor In Soo Kim. His research focused on biological landfill leachate treatment and microbial fuel cells.

 

Dr. Chae has published a total of 31 papers in SCI-listed journals such as Environmental Science & Technology, Bioresource Technology, and International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, and made more than 100 conference presentations. He also owns 37 patent rights. His research interests includewater-energy nexus, energy self-sufficient wastewater treatment, microbial fuel cells, and advancedwastewater treatment, as well asself-healing polymeric membranes that can spontaneously repair damaged spots.

 

“GIST has excellent faculty and research environment that allow students to compete with any other institution around the world for outstanding research results,” Dr. Chae said. “I encourage GIST students to prepare themselves well for a productive career not only in academic research but also in practical development for industrial applications,” he added.
