Dear members of the GIST community,
As you may know, GIST was established by the Korean government and tasked with performing important world-class research, including research related to security and national defense. In furtherance of this mandate, the Korean government has provided GIST with the best infrastructure for research, academics, and administration. Because GIST is a government institution, we operate under the auspices and oversight of the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning; and, as such, we must adhere to any rules and regulations promulgated by the Ministry.
One important regulation that members of the GIST community will soon have to comply with regards internet services. Starting in July 2016, webmail services through portals (such as Naver, Daum, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, etc.) will be restricted on GIST"s network. Therefore, accessing these services from campus may not be possible. This regulation has been promulgated to help protect and safeguard network security.
We realize that this may cause some inconvenience and issues for many members of the GIST community; however, this is a Korea-wide policy for government institutions and is implemented as a matter of national security. Therefore, please plan accordingly.
