2010 Fall Global Intern Program



 



The Section of International and Public Affairs (IPA) at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Korea, is planning to host a Global Intern Program (GIP) in Science and Technology during 2010.



 



The primary objective of the Global Intern Program is to carry out research and provide training related to science and technology.



 



IPA has worked to organize a Global Intern Program once a year, offering students from various countries the opportunity to participate in a 4 month training course at GIST.



 



This year, we are seeking up to 20 intern students for the upcoming Fall Semester (September 1, 2010 ? December 21, 2010).



 



The Global Intern Program is designed to provide knowledge and skills related to science and technology in the areas of Life Science, Mechatronics, Information and Communications, Materials Science, Environmental Science, and Photonics.



 



Details:



Participants of the Program will be assigned to a department laboratory and receive their research training and coursework under the supervision of the professor in charge of the laboratory.



 



Information regarding department labs and courses offered can be obtained from the GIST website (http://ewww.gist.ac.kr).



 



Applicants should select from the participating laboratories in order of interest and fill in the application form ranking their interests in order of priority.



 



Participants who successfully complete the Intern Program will receive a Certificate of Completion.



 



The record of each participant will be retained by GIST and used as part of the evaluation if the participant wishes to enter an M.S. or Ph.D. program at GIST in the future.



 



Support for the participants:



One-way airfare (economy class)



Dormitory accommodation (two persons per room)



Stipend of 400,000 Korean Won (approximately $350) per month to cover dormitory rent (100,000 Korean Won) & living costs.



Medical insurance during the Program period



 



Visa status:



Please remember that you should obtain a D-4 visa when applying for a Korean visa.

Applicants should be graduate students or current students of a university in their home country. If you are interested in participating in this Program, please complete the application form and send it to IPA with the following documents:

1.    Curriculum vitae.



2.    Cover letter: Describe how you obtained information related to this Intern Program; why the internship program will be useful to you in the context of your career goals; and why you are interested in the lab you selected.



 



By Mail: We need the following;



1.    Original documents Letter(s) of recommendation by your supervisor(s).



2.    Certificates of graduation or Certificate of enrollment status (including every degree you"ve attained).



3.    Academic transcript-xs.



 



To ensure efficient processing, please provide your exact address, phone number, and full name on the application form as it appears on your passport.



The period for applying will be started from 1st April only accepted through IPA homepage on the internet.



The deadline for application is April 16, 2010. Please send the original documents to us with below mentioned address by April 23, 2010. You will be notified by e-mail as to whether your application has been accepted by June 18, 2010.
