GIST is a research-oriented university that was founded in 1993 by the Korean government to meet the nation’s need to advance research and to enhance the development of higher education in science and engineering. For the past 17 years, GIST has been successful in performing research and development as demonstrated by the QS.com ranking (world #14th in citations per faculty in 2009) that evaluates the research universities in the world.
This year GIST opened its door to undergraduate students by starting an undergraduate program, the GIST College. GIST College admitted 100 highly qualified students: 60 from science high schools in the nation and 40 top students from other high schools. We run a two-year general studies program that emphasizes in-depth teaching in math and science, and also humanities and arts and social science courses.
