Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Professor Positions at GIST Korea
INFONET Laboratory in School of Information and Communications at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Korea is looking for talented and innovative individuals for Postdoc Fellows and Research Professor positions. The area of research is in Compressive Sensing and wireless sensor networks. The director of the lab, Prof. Heung-No Lee, has recently been awarded with a Federal Research Grant under Grant No. 2010-0017944, one of most prestigious research grants given to individual mid-career researchers, from the Korean National Research Foundation (NRF). Compressive Sensing is an emerging area of research which has shown promising results for compressing signals while taking samples. It has shown a huge potential to fundamentally change the way we take signal samples. Under this grant, Prof. Lee aims to solve the data redundancy and energy efficiency problems existing in multiple sensor systems. The title of the project is CODing theoretic comPRESSive sensing for multiple sensor systems (CODPRESS). The duration of the grant is five year, from May 1st, 2010 to April 30th, 2015, and the total funding amount is about $1.5 million U.S. dollars.
Preferred candidates are the ones with a doctoral degree in one of the following disciplines including Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics
1. who have a track record of publications in at least one of the following areas: Information and Coding Theory, Statistical Signal Processing Theory, Convex Optimization, Mathematics of Computation, Mathematics of Communications; or publications with the following Keywords: Compressive Sensing, Convex Optimization, L1 norm minimization, Sensor Networks, Multiple Sensor Systems, Reed Solomon Codes, LDPC Codes, Wireless Sensor Networks
2. who are self-motivated, independent, and interested in conducting world-class researches in the proposed project domain
Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) is a young research oriented University fully funded by the Korean Government. Domestic students apply to GIST from all over Korea and are admitted nationwide. About 10% of the students are admitted from abroad, including Asia, Africa, the U.S., and European countries. All admitted students are supported with full scholarship from the Korean Government. Tuition is fully waived, and room and boards are provided free; monthly stipend is granted. GIST was established about 17 years ago by a special law initiated by the Korean Government. It was ranked no. 1 in Asia or no. 14th in the world by the QS University Ranking in 2009 in the category of Citations per Faculty. More information about GIST can be obtained by visiting the official University web-site (http://ewww.gist.ac.kr/). More information about the lab can be obtained by visiting the Lab web-page (http://infonet.gist.ac.kr).
