The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kichul Lim) announced the publication of a children's mystery novel, "Detective Myeong-aru," in August, based on the work of Yeon-woo Bae (Class of '23), an undergraduate student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, who won the grand prize in the first Biryongso Sherlock Holmes Award. The Sherlock Holmes Award is a contest launched in 2024 by Biryongso, a children's and young adult publishing company, to discover Korean children's mystery literature. "Detective Myeong-aru" is a mystery novel in which elementary school student Myeong-aru acts as a detective and solves cases. Detective Myeongaru's logical reasoning gradually reveals that seemingly mysterious incidents, such as the ghost story of the abandoned house behind the school, the theft of a cursed doll, and the rotting school pond, are in fact connected to one incident.

The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kichul Lim) announced that Professor Dongryeol Ryu of the Department of Biomedical Science and Engineering won the L@L? Sasuk Award at the ʻL@L? Asia-Oceania Federation of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (FAOBMB) Conference’ and the ʻKorean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (KSBMB) Annual Conference’ held at BEXCO in Busan from May 20 to 23. The Sasuk Award was established in L@>] according to the wishes of former Chairman Kyung-soo Ham, and was created to encourage young life scientists with outstanding creative research capabilities and to inspire research motivation. It is currently considered the most traditional and prestigious award among the awards presented by the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Jovanović Award for Power Electronics Emerging Technology by the Power Electronics Society (PELS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).The IEEE Power Electronics Society is the world’s most authoritative academic society in the field of wirelesspower transfer, and this award is given to only one researcher each year who has developed leading technology and achieved outstanding results in the field.With this award, Professor Rim is the first in Korea and the seventh recipient in the world.

The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kichul Lim) announced that the ʻAssist’ team (advisor: Professor Jeha Ryu), consisting of undergraduate student Joo-seong Park and doctoral student Hoosang Lee, won the Encouragement Award in the thesis contest of the specialized academic journal ʻDamage Compensation Liability Research’ established by the Korea Automobile Damage Compensation Promotion Agency.The ʻAssist’ team is currently establishing and operating a startup based on traffic accident analysis AI technology, and this winning paper is the result of expanding their research to the policy area of insurance system improvement based on their technical expertise and practical experience.
