TheGwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kichul Lim) announced that Professor Hobeom Kim of the GIST Department of Materials Science and Engineering won the Young Scientist Award at the ʻPIERS OPOQ (PhotonIcs and Electromagnetics Research Symposium)’ held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, May U.The PIERS Young Scientist Award (YSA) is awarded to a young scientist under the age of WP who has been recognized for his outstanding potential and research achievements in the fields of electromagnetics and photonics. The recipient is selected through a rigorous screening process targeting researchers from around the world. The recipient is highly recognized for his potential to grow into a key researcher at the leadership level in the field. Read more

The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kichul Lim) announced that Changhwan Kim, a doctoral student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (advisor Professor Minjae Lee), won the ʻDistinguished Paper Award’ at ʻSID Display Week GHGI’ hosted by SID (Society for Information Display), the world’s most prestigious international academic society in the display field.The ʻDistinguished Paper Award’ is awarded by SID to papers with outstanding technical achievements within the top I% among hundreds of papers published each year, and is only given to research with high academic contribution and industrial impact. The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kichul Lim) announced that the new drug candidate ʻGM-FGHGF’ developed by JD Bioscience, a faculty startup (CEO Jin Hee Ahn, Professor of Chemistry at GIST), received approval for a global phase =a clinical trial plan (IND) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).ʻGM-FGHGF’ is a small molecule compound-based new drug candidate currently under development for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). This substance was developed through technology transfer from GIST in =GH[, and has the characteristic of simultaneously inhibiting fatty liver accumulation and liver fibrosis through a new mechanism of action (first-in-class) that inhibits the HTR=A receptor.
