□ 주제: Machine Personhood 기계의 (법적) 인격성
□ 일시: 2025년 12월 2일(화) 16:00~18:00

□ 연사: Professor Boris Babic(University of Hong Kong, Dep. of Data Science/Philosophy/Law)

○ 주요 내용
 - Should the law have a category for AI agency? Will any AI systems soon justify the agency, and if yes, what are the necessary conditions for it? (법은 인공지능의 행위성을 인정해야 할까? 가까운 시일 내에 어떤 인공지능 시스템이 행위성을 정당화할 수준에 이를 것인가? 만약 그렇다면, 법적으로 어떤 조건이 충족되어야 할까?)
 - If the answer is yes, should the law expand the notion of personhood, in particular, to include AI systems, as it has done historically to include corporations, unions? If yes, what are the consequences of such a move for tort liability and criminal responsibility? (그 답이 “예”라면, 과거 법이 기업, 노조 등을 포함시켜 왔듯이, 인공지능 시스템도 포함하도록 ‘법인격’을 확장해야 할까? 그 경우, ‘불법행위 책임’과 ‘형사책임’은 어떤가?)

○ 연사 소개
 - He is also one of the principal investigators at the AI and Humanity Lab, a research fellow of the Urban Systems Institute, and a faculty affiliate of the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society at the University of Toronto.
He works primarily in ethics, law, and policy of artificial intelligence and machine learning, including generative AI. His research has appeared in Science, Nature Machine Intelligence, Nature Digital Medicine, and the Harvard Business Review.
