GIST Professor Yo-Sung Ho is selected as IEEE Fellow
□ Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST • President Seung Hyeon Moon) Professor Yo-Sung Ho of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science has been recognized for his contribution to the development of multimedia signal processing and image compression by being selected as an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellow.
∘ With more than 400,000 members in 160 countries, IEEE is a leading institution in a wide range of fields, including computer and communications, aerospace systems, medical engineering, electrical power, and consumer electronics.
∘ The IEEE Board of Directors awards the IEEE Fellow, which is a member"s highest status, to those who have achieved outstanding achievements in their field.
□ Professor Ho has been devoted to research and education for 35 years and has made significant contributions to signal processing, image compression, and 3D image processing. His research has been especially focused on image compression technology for digital TV and 3D image processing technology for realistic 3D broadcasting service.
∘ He worked at ETRI (1983 ~ 1995) and developed digital TV systems. He worked as a senior researcher at Philips Research Institute (1990 ~ 1993) and played a key role in the development of the US digital HDTV system.
∘ Since September 1995, he has been a Professor in the School of Information and Communication (currently School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) at GIST. Since 2003, he established the GIST Realistic Broadcasting Research Center and has focused on advanced research in this field and has contributed to the development of specialized industries and national science and technology in the Gwangju and Jeonnam area.
□ Professor Ho is widely known not only in Asia but also in America and Europe through active domestic and international academic activities. He was the editor of various academic journals such as IEEE T-CSVT and T-MM. He has participated in several academic events in Japan and abroad, exchanged the latest information, and shared expertise and talent through invited talks and seminars. I have also been working on it.
∘ In the past 21 years, Professor Ho has produced 22 PhDs and 64 MS at GIST. He has overseen a video communication laboratory and published more than 1,000 research papers in domestic and international journals and academic conferences. He has contributed greatly to academic development and talent cultivation in his field of expertise.
□ Professor Ho is currently the chairman of the Korean Broadcasting Media Engineering Society and will host the APSIPA ASC 2016 at the 2016 Asia-Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association Annual Conference on Jeju Island from December 13 to 16, 2016.
