GIST has donates science books to 10 elementary schools in Gwangju
The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) under the leadership of President Seung Hyeon Moon has donated science books worth 12 million won to 10 elementary school in a tradition that has spanned the past 14 years.
The GIST Section of International and Public Affairs visited Shinchang Elementary School to donate 1.2 million won worth of science books. For this year"s book donation, GIST asked the elementary schools to create a wish list of books they wanted to receive. The books were delivered to the schools with the hope of really helping the students develop a passion for science.
In February of 2016, GIST provided 13 local elementary school students with Science Excellence Awards that included scholarships worth 2.6 million won.
Dean Byoung Hun Lee of the Section of International and Public Affairs said, "With these book donations and scholarship awards, I hope we can instill curiosity and imagination into these young elementary school students so that they will be encouraged to pursue goals and dreams of learning more about science."
