Distinguished Professor Yong-Tak Lee
receives award from the Optical Society of Korea
The Director of the Advanced Photonics Research Institute at
the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Professor Yong-Tak Lee,
received an award from the Korean Optical Society on January 21, 2016, during
the Optical Society of Korea"s Winter Conference at the Daejeon Convention
Center. The Optical Society of Korea"s Winter Conference recognized the
outstanding achievements of researchers who have significantly contributed to
the development of optics.
The award was presented to Professor Lee in recognition for
his 37 years in contributing to the field of optical research and education. Among
the distinctions garnered by Professor Lee during his 37 career include the
current directorship of the Advanced Photonics Research Institute and his
involvement with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute in
Korea from 1979-1994, which included being the director of the Optoelectronics Section
from 1987-1990 and being the director of the Compound Semiconductor Department
from 1991-1992. He has been a faculty member at GIST since 1994 in the School
of Information and Communications.
During the past 22 years at GIST, Professor Lee has minted 16
Ph.D."s and 66 master"s degree graduates from his lab and has published 208 SCI
papers, given 358 presentations, and registered 64 patents, 45 of which have
contributed significantly to the development of optics.
