Prof. Dan Schechtman, 2011 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Emphasizes Spirit of Challenge
Professor Dan Schechtman of Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) gave a special lecture on entrepreneurship on Friday, December 5 in Oryong Hall on GIST Campus. The special lecture was attended by more than 300 students, researchers, faculty members, and industry professionals and was followed by a question and answer session.
Winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2011 for his work on quasi-crystals, Professor Shechtman is currently a chaired professor at Seoul National University. He is known as the pioneer of Israel’s startup revolution, as he has been running the course on technological startup and entrepreneurship at Technion for 27 years. He also ran for the presidency of Israel earlier this year on a platform of educational reform.
The special lecture was hosted by GIST Entrepreneurship Education Center as part of its effort to realize a creative economy and foster an ecosystem for startups. The center opened in June this year to imbue technology owners in the region of Gwangju City and Jeonnam Province with the entrepreneurial spirit and to promote opening of startups as a new growth engine of the region.
