Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Kim Young-Joon) announced on November 21, 2012 that Dr. Park Seong-Ju, a professor of School of Materials Science and Engineering at GIST was elected as the new president of Korea Society of Optoelectronics. His one-year term will start in January 2013.

Professor Park graduated from Department of Chemistry, Seoul National University, Korea and received Ph.D. degree from Cornell University, USA. Then, he joined T. J. Watson Research Center of IBM as a researcher and served as the chief researcher at Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). He has been serving as a professor of GIST since 1995.
