[Press release] Professor Lee Kwang-Hee’s team reveals cause of performance degradation of conductivity plastic Reveals cause of performance degradation of conductivity plastic where electricity flows Posted on recent edition of Physical Review Letters (9/7)
“Opens possibility of developing high performance plastic material like metal where electricity can flow well”
As the cause behind limited electricity conductivity of conductivity plastic material which had not been revealed for the last 20 years has been revealed by Korean researchers, we became one step closer to developing next generation high performance plastic electric devices where electricity can flow well like metal.
This research, led by professor Lee Kwang-Hee(age 52) who is the vice president of the Heeger Center in GIST and Dr. Kang Young-Ho(age 42) of Solar Energy Research Center and participated by Nara Kim in doctor’s course(first author), received support from the middle-scale researcher support program(leap research) and WCU development project promoted by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology(Minister: Lee Ju-Ho) and National Research Foundation of Korea(President: Lee Seung-Jong). The result of the research was posted on the recent edition of the world renowned academic journal ‘Physical Review Letters’ (7th of September). (Title of thesis: Role of interchain coupling in the metallic state of conducting polymers)
Professor Lee’s team revealed through various solvent processing(dimethyl sulfoxide ethylene glycol) that the element which limits reduction of electrical conductivity by adjusting the structure of conductivity plastic in nanometer(1/1billion meter, structural change among high molecular chains) and micrometer sizes is in the mutual reaction among chains.
The research team’s performance ended the continuous debate on the cause of reduction of PEDOT: PSS material.
