GIST International Environmental Research Center (IERC) participated in a global conference to seek more concrete and practical adaptation strategies and actions for climate change. IERC participated in a joint session at the 5th Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on October 17 to 19, 2016, with the Climate Technology Centers & Network.

IERC Director Joon Ha Kim gave a presentation on technology transfer issues, training for developing countries, and technologies developed by IERC over the past ten years for adaptation to climate change.

In particular, the Ongdalsaem Project (meaning small spring) that was conducted in Fiji to provide more clean drinking water by donating water purification devices received considerable attention in many developing countries that have the same water issues caused by climate change.

CTCN headquarters manager Jason Spensley said, “Based on the achievements performed by IERC, we want to hold a joint workshop in the future.”

IERC Director Joon Ha Kim said, “Having this opportunity to attend the forum will provide a good foundation to expand the role of IERC in the future.”

The forum was co-hosted by the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, the Government of Sri Lanka, and the United Nations Environment Program.
