Professor Chun T. Rim of the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST • President Seung Hyeon Moon) is the first domestic researcher to have been awarded first prize for the best paper award by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE).
Professor Rim received the award last month in Milwaukee, Wisconson (USA), during the IEEE annual meeting for his 2015 paper entitled "Advances in Wireless Power Transfer Systems for Roadway-Powered Electric Vehicles," which discussed history of wireless power technology and culminated with a discussion electric cars powered by wireless power transfer. The paper was co-authored with researchers from the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
Professor Rim said, "Korea is one of the most advanced countries regarding wireless technology for electric vehicles, and the commercial value of this technology should be more than 10 trillion won after ten years."
