Haedong Science & Culture Foundation Chairman Jung-sik Kim
donated 500 million won to the GIST Development Fund
On May 26, 2016, the Haedong Science & Culture
Foundation Chairman Jung-sik Kim donated 500 million won to GIST. This is the
highest donation made to GIST by an individual.
Chairman Kim said, “I was very impressed and moved by GIST’s
achievements by showing world-class research capacity of coming second for
citations per faculty in the QS World University Rankings, so I have decided to
make this donation for the continued success of GIST’s future visions.”
Chairman Kim wants the fund to be used for the expansion of
academic information facilities, and GIST will honor his request. Oryong Hall
will feature state-of-art IT equipment in an internet-styled café with informational
access rooms, online video screening rooms, and meeting rooms. The facility
will be named the "Haedong Academic Information Room."
Chairman Kim graduated from Seoul National University in
1956. He founded the circuit board manufacturing company "Daeduk
Electronics" in 1972, and it grew to have annual revenues of 600 billion
won. Chairman Kim"s foundation has been expanding the development of science
and education through his foundation.
