Faculty and staff members of the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) were invited to a special luncheon at Oryong Hall on February 3, 2016, to honor those faculty and staff members who have contributed financially to the GIST Development Fund.

The event was organized by the GIST Section of International and Public Affairs. Since its inception in 1995, 126 faculty and staff members have contributed a grand total of 366,000,000 won to the GIST Development Fund. The money raised helps to fund student scholarships as well as many special projects around campus, such as providing students with bicycles on campus.

GIST Vice-President Woo Keun Song presided over the awards ceremony, which recognized the special contributions made by: Professor Jang-Soo Chun (School of Life Science), Professor Seong-Ju Park (School of Materials Science and Engineering), Professor Heechul Choi (School of Environmental Science and Engineering), Pastor Dae-won Kim (GIST Church), Emeritus Professor Byung Ha Ahn (School of Mechatronics), Professor Do Han Kim (School of Life Sciences), and Tae-sik Jung (Academic Information Team).

Special recognition for significant donations were also given to Professor Sung Yang (School of Mechatronics) and to Secretary-General Gyung-jong Song of the GIST Techno Management Business Academy.

GIST Vice-President Woo Keun Song warmly thanked the donors by saying, "There are many GIST-loving faculty and staff members whose contributions will go a long way to ensuring the continued success of our school. GIST honors your hard work and commitment to our future."
