ADD-GIST: Promoting joint research on National Defense Technology
The Electronic Warfare Research Center at GIST and the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) has signed an agreement for joint research and development of the national defense sector.
Congresswoman Eun-hee Kwon, a National Assembly Defense Committee member, is keenly interested in national defense related technologies and has stated that she would actively support R&D cooperation.
GIST and ADD will utilize APRI’s equipment, resources, and infrastructure to facilitate the exchange of technology information among researchers. A national defense science related professional training program is also being planned.
The Electronic Warfare Research Center (Director/Prof. Ki-sun Kim) is a consortium that includes GIST, Seoul University, Korea University, Yonsei University, KAIST, etc. A total of 15 universities and 28 commercial businesses, including Samsung and LG, are also participating in the R&D consortium.
Currently, the center is researching electronic information acquisition analysis, which will be a core technology component of future warfare. Defense electronics and electronic interference related components and systems will also be researched.
In addition to high-energy lasers and laser-based electronic warfare technology developed by APRI, there are numerous ongoing projects, such as the hybrid systems of Marine Science & Technology (MT), Information Technology (IT), Environmental Technology (ET), and Space Technology (ST).
Based on their past research achievements, GIST and ADD decided last month to solidify their R&D collaborative efforts by launching a “large military research projects promotion team” and have proceeded to examine specific research areas and business models.
