Meeting with GIST students at UC Berkeley
On July 18, 2015, the dean of GIST College, Do-Kyeong Ko, met with and encouraged GIST students who are attending the UC Berkeley summer session.
The visit had been made in connection with the international cooperation program. The dean met with 99 undergraduate students who are now being supervised by biology professor Dr. Steve K. Cho and English instructor Ms. Kristen Apruzzese. Sociology professor Dr. Jin-Ho Jang will also be arriving shortly at UC Berkeley to help supervise the GIST students.
Dean Ko urged the students: “Because this program is supported by GIST to help nurture and develop internationally competative scientists, I hope all of you act responsibly and passionately with regards to this amazing opporunity you have of being able to study at UC Berkeley.” A GIST student, Jin-woo Kim, said afterwards, “I was encouraged by the dean and school officials who came here to UC Berkeley to visit us and restore our fighting spirit. I will try my best to maintain the highest traditions of GIST excellence while gaining the most from my UC Berkeley Summer Session experience.”
GIST supports UC Berkeley Summer Session program for second year undergraduate students to help them gain international experience. Students who meet the English proficiency standards set by UC Berkeley can apply, and participants will take two classes for two months. Moreover, to give students more diverse experiences, GIST offers field trips on weekends to visits different IT companies in Silicon Valley and labs.
