"Can you pop the balloon in the box with a laser?"
GIST"s APRI (Advanced Photonics Research Institute) invited students from Cheomdan district area and held an event called "Science World with Elementary Students" on the 28th of April.
GIST has been actively participating in regional cooperation programs in science with the APRI hosting "Science World with Elementary Students" every year since 2008. APRI researchers, hoping to popularize science and technology, participated as instructors by giving children the opportunity to experiments with lights and lasers.
Introduction of "International Year of Light", painting by laser, popping balloon in the box and understanding of the high-power laser introduced 40 students and 10 science teachers the principles of the light and laser and learn about the utilizing in real-life.
Dr. Chang-Su Jung of APRI said, "APRI developed the world"s first 1.5PW high-powered laser, and our researchers are providing this opportunity to elementary school students from the community so that they can learn more about science with the hope that events such as this will help them dream about beccoming Korea"s future scientists."
