A multimedia mosaic of moments at GIST
With the recent completion of the construction work, the new Central Library officially opened on Monday, April 6 to become the hub of educational, research, and cultural activities of GIST.
The new building has a total floor space of 5,454 square meters in four stories and a basement level. It is located in front of LG Science Library, which was donated by the LG Group and dedicated in 1997 as the first library on the campus.
GIST Central Library has 627 seating spaces, including individual carrels, small group study rooms, laptop reading rooms, a lecture theater, and an exhibition room doubling as a cafe. Community members wishing to use any of these spaces can make a reservation on the Internet (http://library.gist.ac.kr) or the mobile (http:/m.library.gist.ac.kr).
GIST Central Library also plans to host a number of cultural programs intended for and participated by student organizations and other community members and volunteers. GIST College’s student orchestra, Akdong, will kick off with a concert at 8 pm on Wednesday, April 8 at the lecture theater.
The operating hours of GIST Central Library are 8 am – 12 midnight every day, including weekends and holidays. Those for LG Science Library have been changed to 9 am – 9 pm every day.
Professor Kim Kang-Wook, Dean of Academic Information, said, “GIST Central Library will be a new landmark on the campus and be a center for academic study and research, a place for resting and mingling, and a space for a variety of cultural activities. We will do our best to provide the best possible service to all community members.”
