Professor Semyung Wang of GIST School of Mechatronics was named a winner of industrial-academic research award by LG Electronics Inc. The award ceremony was held on December 24, 2014 in the Gasan R&D Campus of LG Electronics in Seoul.

Professor Wang’s research team conducted an industrial-academic cooperative research project with LG Electronics from 2011 through 2014 and developed an environment-friendly technology for improving the energy efficiency of refrigerator compressors using an acoustic effect. The new technology does not require any additional power or device and is expected to be applicable to compressors for other consumer electronic products.

Professor Wang’s research interests include noise, vibration, and optimization. Recently, his lab is concentrating on the development of novel sound focusing technologies with applications to safety engineering and energy conservation.
