A multimedia mosaic of moments at GIST
GIST College opened on August 4 two summer intensive courses taught by a full-time faculty member of California Institute of Technology (Caltech), a prestigious science and engineering school that has produced 32 Nobel laureates. As a part of the mutual exchange and cooperation programs between GIST College and Caltech, Professor Rob Phillips of Caltech’s Department of Applied Physics and Materials Science has been teaching summer intensive courses at GIST since 2011. This year, he is teaching “Physical Biology of the Cell” and “Evolutionary Biology.” The evolutionary biology course includes a field trip on August 16 – 23 to Lombok in Indonesia, famous for the Wallace Line dividing the island into two halves with distinct flora and fauna. Joining in the field trip will be Professors Lea Goentoro of Caltech, Steve K. Cho of GIST College, Tristan Ursell of University of Oregon, and Madhav Mani of Northwestern University, as well as 6 students from Caltech, Stanford University and Oxford University. GIST College students participating in the field trip will have a chance to spend 8 days with professors and students from world-leading universities to hone their creative, cooperative, communicative, and problem-solving skills.
