GIST ranks 1st in Korea in QS Asian University Ranking < Papers per Faculty > In the 2014 Chosun Ilbo-QS Asian University Ranking, GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, President ž Young Joon Kim) ranked 1st in Korea and 2nd in Asia in the category of ‘Papers per Faculty’. (*QS: Quacquarelli Symonds) ‘Papers per Faculty’ is an indicator of how actively the faculty of a university has conducted research, and accounts for 15% of the evaluation of research performance (weight 60%) of universities. GIST also came in 8th in Korea and 30th in Asia in Citations per Paper (15%) which assesses the quality and influence of research findings by the faculty. Previously in 2013, GIST ranked 1st in both Korea and Asia in this category. The Chosun Ilbo-QS Asian University Ranking is a joint evaluation of higher education institutes in Asia between Chosun Ilbo and Quacquarelli Symonds, a UK-based global university rater, and 2014 marks the 6th year since it was launched. This year, 491 universities in 17 countries including Korea, Japan, China, India, Singapore and Hong Kong (separately evaluated from China) in four categories based on nine indicators.
