GIST Earned 20 Million KRW at a Charity Market Held to Celebrate Its 20th Anniversary and Donated All of the Profits to Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital to Treat Children with Rare or Incurable Diseases. On December 11th, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President ž Young Joon Kim), Beautiful Store, and Gwangju MBC donated 20 million KRW to Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital to help children with rare or incurable diseases. All the profits which GIST, Beautiful Store, and Gwangju MBCearned at “2013 Bitgoeul’’s Biggest Nanum Market (Bitgoeul is a Korean word meaning Gwangju and Nanum means sharing)” held to celebrate the 20th anniversary of GIST on October 19th are delivered to the Hospital as donation. 25 civic organizations and about 30,000 residents in Gwangju and South Jeolla Province participated in the market, sold recyclables, and voluntarily donated their profits. The donation (20,408,096 KRW) will be spent to treat the children with acute myelocyte leukemia at Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital. A donation ceremony was held at Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital and organizers of the market and relevant people from participating organizations were present at the ceremony, including Yang Bong-ryul (Vice President of Public Affairs of GIST), Seo Kyung-joo (President of Gwangju MBC), Kang Young-hee (Regional Directors of Beautiful Store), Jo Duk-seon (President of Sarangbang Newspaper), and Kim Sung-hoon (Head of Gwangju Youth Service Center).
