The Consortium for Southwest Touch Industry Development participated in 2013 C-Touch Exhibition The Consortium for Southwest Touch Industry Development (hereinafter Consortium, headed by Professor Lee Byung-hoon at School of Materials Science & Engineering, GIST) participated in 2013 China International Touchscreen Exhibition (2013 C-Touch) held at Shenzhen Convention Exhibition Center in Shenzhen China from November 25 to 27. C-Touch is the world’s largest exhibition regarding touch panels and the Consortium displayed touch screen modules, touch wear, screening equipment, paste and ink materials, adhesives, ITO films, and other prototypes related to touch screen technologies. Company in the Consortium have 149 business talks with foreign buyers and some of them are expecting over 660 thousand USD in sales. Optron TC’s touch wear prototype enable users to enjoy touch screen function on the screen of a laptop (which doesn’t have a touch screen) when it’s connected to the laptop and the prototype gained much attention from visitors at the exhibition. The Consortium for Southwest Touch Industry Development is supported by Mega-regional Economic Zone Strategy of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The Consortium aims to contribute to the development of local economy by nurturing human capital and establishing technological foundation for the touch industry through cooperation and joint development among company, government-funded research institutes, and universities in North and South Jeolla Provinces, creating jobs, and encouraging more investment and sakes. The Consortium has 18 organizations (14 businesses in North and South Jeolla Provinces and 4 member companies) and 11 professors and 35 students from GIST participate in research of the Consortium. The Consortium has employed 366 people, garnered 270 billion KRW in sales, gained 24.9 billion KRW in investment, and obtained 41 intellectual property rights. Optrontec, one of the Consortium’s partner companies, invested 15 billion KRW in Gwangju Science Industrial Complex to build a factory for mass production of touch panels and the construction will be completed in mid-December.
