Center for Seawater Desalination Plant of GIST holds More than 20 international experts gathered in Busan during Oct. 17th~18th Experts in seawater desalination gathered at the 2nd International Workshop of Seawater Desalination Plant held in Paradise Hotel, Busan on Oct. 17th~18th. The workshop was hosted by Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement under the auspices of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and organized by Center for Seawater Desalination Plant (Director In S. Kim) of GIST. More than 20 experts came from leading nations in the field of seawater desalination, such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, France, Australia, Singapore, the US and Malaysia, and they shared research result and accomplishments of the countries and discussed the direction of future research activities. Participants made presentations on research of state-of-the-art technologies to lead seawater desalination in the mid-to-long-term, such as the latest desalination technologies (new process, membrane, etc.), the advancement of hybrid method combining more than two processes, monitoring and control of membrane contamination, environmental impact assessment, concentrate water recycling and energy recovery technology. They also visited the test bed (daily desalination capacity: 45,000 tons) now under construction by Center for Seawater Desalination Plant in Busan. Minister Abdullah Bin Aahman al-Hussayen of Water and Electricity and President Abdulrahman Al Ibrahim of Saline Water Conversion Corporation of Saudi Arabia joined them on the site tour.
