Special Lecture Delivered by David Moon, CEO of Sammoon Group and an example of “American Dream”, at GIST His lecture is a part of series of lectures delivered by influential figures to mark GIST’s 20th anniversary. He talked about his business, life and success. He moved to the US at 31 with only 500 USD but now the annual revenues of his Sammoon Group are 150 million USD. □ David Moon (73) is a Korean entrepreneur in the US. He moved to the US in the early 1970s with only 500 dollars in his hands. But now he is the owner and CEO of Sammoon Group (whose annual revenues are 150 million USD) and an example of “American Dream”. He delivered a special lecture about business strategies to the students of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Young Joon Kim) and Gwangju citizens at Oryong Hall. ❍ To mark its 20th anniversary, GIST is holding “coming-of-age” events to foster collaboration and interaction with Gwangju citizens. And David Moon’s special lecture is a part of series of lectures delivered by influential figures in and out of Korea hosted by GIST. ❍ David Moon toured GIST’s Research Institute for Solar and Sustainable Energies and ‘exhibition of GIST’s achievements for its 20-year history’. Then he delivered a special lecture about “Business Strategy for Success” for one hour from 2:30 at Oryong Hall and had a QnA session afterwards. ❍ He started his career in the US as a salesman of a small wig producer and later founded a wig store without getting any help from others. In 1981, he established Sammoon Trading, the mother company of Sammoon Group. Sammoon Trading imported female accessories and products from Korea and supplied them to US retailers. Sammoon Trading has developed into Sammoon Group after successful establishment of a shopping mall and golf links. Sammoon Group has 450 employees and 8 large shopping malls in the US. □ David Moon is not only a self-made man with success stories but also a man of charity who has made lots of donations. ❍ David Moon established “Sammoon Scholarship Foundation” based on one million USD from his pocket in 2007 and the foundation is awarding scholarship to 20 Korean-American students every year. Dallas Baptist University, to which David Moon has made donations regularly, named a newly established building as ‘David and In Sun Moon International Center’ after David Moon and his wife.
