Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology(GIST, President   Young Joon Kim) conducted a screening test for dementia in joint with the Namgu District Office of Gwangju Metropolitan city(District office head Choi, Young Ho), and Chosun University (President   Seo, Jae hong). Approximately 1,000 residents aged 65 or above in Namgu district, Gwangju applied for the test and over half of them were found to show symptoms or have risks of dementia.

Bio Imaging Research Center of GIST (headed by Prof. Song, Woo Keun at the School of Life Science), the Namgu District Office and Research Center for Alzheimer"s Disease of Chosun University have pushed ahead with the early dementia diagnosis program from 2011 to early this year for the purpose of enhancing local residents’ welfare and drawing up a standard dementia brain map of Koreans.

1,130 residents from Namgu district applied for the screening test and received in-depth medical examination including neuropsychological test, MRI scanning and consultation.
