“Super Strong Laser to Open a Whole New Chapter in Science” - IBS held a ceremony to hold new plaque for 「GIST Campus Super Strong Laser Science Research Center」 on April 12th Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Young Joon Kim) announced the start of the research center on April 12th at GIST campus after holding a ceremony to hang new plague for 「IBS GIST Campus Super Strong Laser Science Research Center」. The plague hanging ceremony held at 1:30 Pm on the same day at the Advanced Photonics Research Institute (APRI) at GIST Campus was attended by Nam, Chang Hee (Head of the Super Strong Laser Science Research Center) Young Joon Kim (President of GIST) Oh, Seo Jeong (Head of IBS) 10 research institution representatives including Kim, Bitnaeri (Professor of Seoul National University) Lee, Hyung Seok (Deputy Mayer of Economy in Gwangju City) and 30 other participants to be briefed on the progress on the establishment of the research center and to join the ceremony to unveil the plaque. Ahead of the ceremony, IBS designated professor Nam, Chang Hee as a head to lead GIST Campus Super Strong Laser Science Research Center when announcing 7 research members for the 2nd phase of research initiative from various fields of basic science including physics, life science and chemistry. IBS GIST Campus Super Strong Laser Science Research Center will be studying various fields of ▲ super strong laser creation ▲interaction between relative laser and air masses ▲ relative high density plasma ▲ theory and simulation of relation laser-materials interaction ▲ Atto second science, using Femto second (1 /1000 trillion) and Petta watt (1000 trillion watt) laser facilities.. The research center is organized with 5 research groups such as Laser Group to run and develop Femto second Petta Watt laser and Experimental Research Group to build up on the laser study to lead laser science innovation. With extensive collaboration and open debate among the research groups, the research activities will be performed in an organic framework and global joint research will be promoted.
- Launched to make KRW 50.4 investment over 5 years and world class research achievements expected, with the support of extensive laser research facilities at the center.
