In order to attract outstanding juniors, the students studying bachelor’s and master’s courses, who are the driving force behind Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST/ President, Young Joon Kim) becoming 7th in the world for research capability, took the lead in promoting the laboratories themselves. About one hundred students accounting for 10% of total graduate school students acted as ‘e-mentors’ to promote the school to ‘preliminary juniors’ by providing information about admission to GIST and its laboratories.

On March 12, 2013, GIST held ‘the 1st e-mentor group ceremony’ at Oryong Hall. About one hundred graduate school students who will act as e-mentors attended the ceremony.

E-mentors will take on the role of promoting the laboratory where they work at by answering any inquiries made on admission to GIST by email from university students all over the country who are interested in GIST. The email addresses of e-mentors are provided in the ‘admission information’ section on the homepage of GIST. Any students who have questions regarding life at GIST or information about laboratories can ask questions and consult with e-mentors.

If it is needed, certificates for e-mentor group’s activities will be issued under the name of academic dean for students acting as e-mentors. In the case of e-mentors who show excellent activities, they will be awarded with a small scholarship or contribution award.
