Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST · President · Young Joon Kim) was the only institute in Korea to be selected as an ‘outstanding institute’ based on performance evaluation of government-invested research institutes on science and technology last year and accordingly received the Presidential citation.
National Science and Technology Commission (Chairman · Kim, Do Yeon) awarded governmental citation and medal to outstanding researchers and research institutes based on performance evaluation of government-invested research institutes in science and technology in 2012. The awarding ceremony took place at the board room of National Science & Technology Commission at 11:00 am, Feb. 22nd.
GIST was the only research institute among five others subject to evaluation of their business performance in 2011 to receive ‘outstanding grade (A)’ in the overall evaluation.
In particular, GIST was the only research institute to receive ‘excellent(S)’, which is the highest grade, in ‘development and growth of competent manpower’ under business efficiency category. It also received ‘excellent(S)’ in ‘optimal education and research environment to develop high-quality science and technology talents’ and ‘development and growth of high-performing science and technology experts’.
