Seong-jun Park, a doctoral student, and Professor Myung-han Yoon’s Research Result, Selected as One of Top Ten Science and Technology News in 2012 Developing Molecular Electronics that Can Bend Freely Selected as One of Top Ten Science and Technology News in 2012 - Selected by KOFST - By Doctoral Student Seong-jun Park, Participated by Prof. Myung-han Yoon - Published in Nature and Nanotechnology in July Research result by Seong-jun Park (doctoral student) and Professor Myung-han Yoon of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at GIST(Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, President Young Joon Kim) have been selected as one of “Top Ten Science and Technology News of the Year” in 2012, released by the KOFST(the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies). With Professor Takhee Lee(Department of Physics and Astronomy) who has moved to SNU from GIST, Park and Professor Yoon have succeeded in producing electronics from a ultra-thin(1-2mm) “self-assembled monolayer” on a bendable plastic board and the paper was published in the July issue of “Nature Nanotechnology”, which is a sister magazine of Nature, the world’s best science magazine. The electronics produced by the research team maintain stable function and performance even when severely bent and after repeated bending test (more than 1,000 times). This result is evaluated as a success in proving that molecular electronics can normally work even when they are freely bent. In addition, the research opened a new opportunity for development of freely bending molecular electronics, by using a nano-sized ultra-thin single molecule.
